Dr. Mark Farris Pirtle

Dr. Pirtle completed his doctor of physical therapy degree (with distinction) from Northern Arizona University. Mark has earned certifications by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS), and as an orthopedic manualtherapist (COMT) by the International Academy of Orthopedic Medicine in Europe.

He developed the first ever pain program at Sierra Tucson, a world-renowned in-patient rehabilitation hospital. Mark is a faculty member for the Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona where he teaches pain science, orthopedics and manual therapy. He has authored and co-authored articles ranging from healing chronic pain and addiction to meditation and artificial intelligence.

Mark has practiced mindfulness meditation for years and spent months abroad in retreat in a Buddhist monastery. Dr. Pirtle brings Western science and Eastern meditation together in a program made for people suffering from a variety of stress-related health problems he calls “Skillfully Aware™.”

Mark lectures around the world inspiring patients and professionals alike with his unique and immediately applicable mind-body approaches to healing. Currently he is testing an expert system software program that diagnoses the many related causes of low back, pelvic and leg pain.

People suffering from the complex combination of stress, pain, addiction, and mood disorders pose a real challenge for health care providers. Dr. Pirtle’s colleagues say that he is an “indispensable ally” in helping them to treat this difficult population. Mark values being a member of an integrated team that communicates openly, follows the evidence, and works compassionately with patients. This approach puts Dr. Pirtle at the center of both traditional and complimentary care.
